The Importance of Stillness: Connect to Inner Peace for Greater Clarity and Calm

Yesterday we explored the importance of Movement. Today, we will entertain the opposite: Stillness.

Stillness is equally as important in finding inner peace and the will to create in our lives.

I do not mean standing absolutely still, not moving your body. This stillness is something that goes much deeper. It is a deep sense of calm, connection to the self, and freedom from the minds chattering.

Through stillness, we are able to reconnect with our inner voice and intuitive knowing. It is in this glass pool that we may plant a seed and send powerful ripples of intention to the universe.

It is in stillness that we are able to rebalance our nervous systems and switch into the the mode of rest and digest.

Some benefits of connecting to Inner stillness include:

  • A greater sense of peace and wellbeing

  • Greater clarity and capacity for rational decision making

  • Increased trust in self and decisions

  • Enhanced ability to manifest through intention and visualization

  • Better digestion, easing of stress and anxiety

We may find stillness in many ways. Meditation and breathwork are the best ways, in my opinion, to connect to this inner peace. This place of complete inner stillness and calm. I find it most effective because it is often the focus of the practice, and with repetitive practice, we are able to carry this inner stillness with us through the rest of our day.

An easy way to practice breathwork during the day is to try box breathing. Simply breath in for 4 counts, hold it for 4 counts, exhale fully for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, then repeat. It only takes a few of these cycles to feel rejuvenated and at peace.

Stillness can also be found in:

  • Enjoying a cup of tea without distraction

  • Stargazing

  • Observing nature

  • People watching, without judging

  • Drawing, painting, and coloring (again, without judging)

  • Relaxing on the couch and letting the Mind wander

  • Watching waves rolling off large bodies of water

There are many ways one can begin to connect to their inner stillness. Be creative and open to trying new ways of exploring the inner workings of your own self.

This is not meant to be a frustrating practice or even a chore. For many they will shy away from this because they fear what they may find, feel they do not have time or that it is a waste, or they feel they are doing it wrong and let judgement creep in.

Through practicing coming to a place of inner stillness, one may ascend all of these negative inner thought patterns. None of them are serving the highest truth of our selves. We are worth more than our mind lets us believe, and these practices are simply meant to help us connect deeper with our Selves and operate from a place of inner peace and clarity, rather than stress and fear.

If you feel inspired, please leave a comment letting me know what your favorite ways are to connect to yourself and your inner stillness.
